**Classes Forming Soon**Chung Do Kwan/Tae Kwon Do Right after the independence of Korea, the Chung Do Kwan, one of the five key Dojangs, was founded first. It symbolized Chung Do Kwan's name, Bluewaves, meaning a youngster's spirit and vitality. Tae Kwon Do literally means "the way of the hands and feet". It is a Korean martial art that was first used by Korean Hwa Rang Do soldiers more than two thousand years ago. The basic tenets of Tae Kwon Do is power, speed, focus and accuracy. Every kick or punch must be thrown with enough force to disable one's opponent, whether it is in practice or in tournament. Tae Kwon Do is different than karate in that there is more emphasis on the feet than on the hands or elbows. It is not uncommon for a good Tae Kwon Doist to be able to deliver a roundhouse kick to an opponent's head. A good Tae Kwon Doist also relies on the harmony between the mind, the body and the spirit while performing this martial art. This aspect to Tae Kwon Do is harder to explain, and needs to be felt before it can truly be understood. When the mind, body and spirit are in tune with each other, a Tae Kwon Doist will know when an attack is coming, and which attack it will be, even before it is delivered by the opponent. This is why it is important for a martial artist to be not only strong physically, but also to have a clear mind and conscience. As an exercise, Tae Kwon Do strengthens and stretches almost every muscle of the body. Beginners start slowly with a thorough stretching warm-up and then participate in an exercise routine that gradually increases in intensity. At the advanced level each practice inherently has an aerobic effect. Another benefit of the practice of Tae Kwon Do is the development of self-discipline, self-control, and self-respect. For practical self-defense and personal development, Tae Kwon Do is unequaled in effectiveness among martial arts. Members of our studio learn how to use techniques for breaking an attackers grip and how to place forceful kicks and punches to disable an assailant. In addition, members practice traditional combinations of movements or forms that teach balance and coordination. At the advanced level, they learn free from sparring which reveals the artful beauty and intellectual challenge of Tae Kwon Do. HwaRang Do code of honor:
